Thousands of ring ditches, circles and megaliths dot the landscape of the our forefathers, tracing their path from their ancient homeland and following their journey as they traveled to their final homes in Europe, and beyond. There are over 1000 stone circles and henges in Britain and Ireland alone Stone circles have been found in Sweden, Denmark, Norway and even Poland Ring ditches and circles have been found in Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary and the Czech Republic France, Belgium, Malta, Italy...all Europe has similar structures 
Spread of Megalithic architecture in Europe
Stonehenge, England 8000 - 2600 BC | Stonehenge evolved in several construction phases spanning at least 1500 years. Archaeologists have found postholes which date to around 8000 BC that held pine posts, probably for a causeway enclosure. Around 3500 BC more work was done on the monument and again around 3000 BC. It wasn't until 2600 BC that the Stonehenge know today began to take shape. It was worked on off and on for several hundred years. |

5000 BC Nabta, Africa Same technology -- same people The earliest megalith is found in the sands of southern Egypt, in the Nubian desert | 5000 BC 
Nabta Playa | The Nabtans erected five megalithic alignments all radiating like wheel spokes from a central cluster of stones. Nabta boasts numerous fire hearths located around a stone calendar circle about 300 meters north of the mega stones. This stone circle is very small compared with the great structures of Stonehenge and Carnac but it demonstrates similar astronomical affiliations. Archaeologists, using global positioning systems, have surveyed the large radial stones and found that their alignments are exactly on the axis north-south and east-west as are the stones of the calendar circle. The east-west line has been calculated to align with the rising and setting sun of the summer solstice more than 6,000 years ago. Many cattle bones have been discovered, adding to the speculation that this was a place of animal veneration. The ancient Egyptians deified cattle, especially the cow. One tumulus contained a fully articulated cow while numerous other, more basic, tumuli contained some artifacts, unshaped stones, and disarticulated cattle bones. |
4900 BC Goseck Circle
Saxony-Anhalt, Germany Considered the earliest sun observatory known in the world, historians have to admit that our ancestors were measuring the heavens far more accurately than previously thought. Traces of the original configuration reveal that the Goseck ring consisted of four concentric circles, a mound, a ditch, and two wooden palisades. The palisades had three sets of gates facing southeast, southwest, and north. At the winter solstice, observers at the center would have seen the sun rise and set through the southeast and southwest gates. Potsherds at the site suggests that the observatory was built ca. 4900 BC because they have linear designs compared to standard chronologies of pottery styles. |
