Talk about twisting the legal system!
What about sorting out the descendants of Black slave owners? What? Never heard of them?! Yes my friends, your history books have failed you yet again. Thousands of free blacks owned slaves. So shouldn't their descendants have to pay also?
Then of course there's the Africans who've immigrated after slavery was abolished. Many of them are descended from the very same African slave traders who hunted down, chained up, and sold their American cousins into bondage. Aren't they complicit in the crime of slavery? Shouldn't they have to "pay their due?"
And what about the millions of White Americans who are descended from White slaves, shouldn't they get reparations? Or the White Americans and their descendants who immigrated long after slavery was abolished. Why should they have to pay reparations?
Just sorting it all out makes ones head spin.
Reparations are just another way to shake down American corporations and to continue "White guilt" for the sins of their fathers. Jesse Jackson is an expert at that and even he doesn't expect any reparations to be paid to individuals but to non-profit groups. Corporations are expected to pay huge amounts of money to minority foundations to make atonement for past sins. They'll go bankrupt. Nothing will appease the likes of Jesse Jackson until White America, the America that gave Jackson everything he has, goes under.
Jesse Jackson and other like him should listen to his fellow Black American, Michael King. Mr. King said in April, 202 that "we, as a people, should forgive and move on. By dwelling on the past, we are doing nothing short of wallowing in our own self-pity. From the reaction I get when I suggest this, you'd think I had thought it was right and proper to beat your children or your dog with a sharp stick. All I want people to do is think rationally and get away from the emotionalism that the so-called black leaders are using to rabble-rouse us. Trying to goad, push and blackmail the government into paying out what amounts to a winning lottery check to black America is nothing more than trying to get something for nothing. And, as we all know, there ain't no such thing as a free lunch."
Mike Green, another Black American had an interesting take on reparations in a paper published in May 2001 by the National Center for Public Policy Research titled, Who Should Pay for Reparations? Black Americans...Obviously. In this paper he talks about the evils of slavery but also that without White assistance slavery would not have been abolished. He points out that more than 40% of black families have a middle-class standard of living.
Then he gets to the root of the problem in the black community (and for White's as well)...breakdown of the Black family. He puts the problems of the Black community right where they belong...with the Black community.
"This is where we find the debt that must be paid. It is a debt of gratitude. It is a debt I owe to my ancestors who lived their tortured lives as slaves.
Who owes the debt of reparations?
We, as black Americans, owe reparations for slavery. We must succeed so that our ancestors will not have died in vain. Their presence in this country has given us an opportunity unique in comparison to any other black community on the planet. There is no excuse for the things many of us have done to squander what those before us died to provide.
Illegitimacy and illiteracy are now the worst enemies of black America. There is no excuse for black leaders to ignore these problems while focusing on the irrelevant and mundane. Those of us who abandoned our children should be ashamed that we sentenced them to the hardships our ancestors hoped to eliminate with their sweat and blood.
There is nothing in the lives of black men and women in America today that can rival the hardships endured by generations of our families who never knew freedom or the opportunity to pursue their dreams.
It is time to repay the debt we owe to our ancestors. It is time for us to make a concerted effort to ensure our children are well-educated, law-abiding, God-fearing contributors to the advancement of mankind."
Mike Green knows how to tell it like it is. Sure wish Jesse Jackson would listen to him!
Here's a very interesting commentary on the subject
An African Group, which consisted of 53 members, submitted a proposal to a U.N. committee, referring to slavery as a “crime against humanity” and demanded compensation from the Europeans. Blacks insist the West acquired its prosperity by stealing resources such as people from the African continent. These proponents maintain that slavery resulted in lasting damage to African nations, including their large burden of borrowed money. Supporters believe that such debts should be forgiven as pay-back for previous injustices and Crimes Against Humanity. The proposal was submitted in U.N. preparatory meetings for the World Conference against Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance. In light of this increasing movement for compensation, western governments threatened to downgrade their UN presence. Western nations fear that to accept the principle of reparations for a practice which ended in the West over 150 years ago, will lead to an endless stream of lawsuits. However, instead of trying to evade the issue, the west should embrace it. That is, if Blacks want an open dialogue on this controversial subject, it should be encouraged. African governments demand payback for slavery from western nations, while doing little to assist the current victims of the slave trade within their own borders! We can use this opportunity to spread western ideals such as freedom and liberty by casting an international spotlight on the remaining practice of slavery that still rears its ugly head in Africa. Fearing blacks, the media is afraid to report accurately, yet stories abound with information on horrifying human-rights violations and trafficking children that still plagues Africa; practices that began long before european colonials arrived there. In its present form, mostly women and children are taken from poor areas, then used and abused in other African nations. UNICEF estimates that approximately 200,000 children are sold into slavery every year. Furthermore, slavery and genocide remain traditional features of the ancient village life and has grown considerably worse since the end of european domination in the continent. Instead of pointing a finger at the west for slavery in a different age when the practice was accepted on every continent, Blacks should display horror by doing something to stop all the vicious crimes that are traditional features in their culture. All the shocking facts regarding Africa ought to be the forefront in any debate on reparations. Unless all they really care about is getting more money from successful abolitionist cultures. Slavery was a common practice long before the europeans colonized the continent, subsided with white colonialism, then dramatically returned following european removal from power. That continent is the ancient center for human trafficking. Then slavery should be considered a domestic African problem that spread from there. It was only western nations that liberty ideas occurred and carried around the world only because of westerners. How hypocritical for American Blacks and Africans to look at white people with hatred and demand payment for slavery when they never showed any intention of removing the practice themselves. Most African-Americans want a return to slavery (though not on Negroes) against other races. Thus racism at the UN and around the globe is primarily a Negro problem and a lust for other people’s wealth. If the West acquired its prosperity in part by stealing resources and people from Africa, then why does Africa have no prosperity when stealing remains a resource there? Because slavery never results in prosperity like Negroes claim. Freedom and liberty created western prosperity; ideas totally absent from Black culture. Highly abstract concepts never conceived by the Negro mind. (Every Black that made a positive contribution had that ability only because of white ancestry. As an example, the great George Washington Carver who developed crop rotation and peanut farming had a white father. His name also was Carver and a plantation owner. Same as everyone who made a great contribution, invented something useful and creative, or developed a new method to help the needy; there is a white male in their recent ancestry.) According to the Laws-of-Biogenesis, certain traits are inherited paternally, other traits maternally, while characteristics are racially inherent. Thirdly, if Negroes are the big assets they imply themselves to be, then why are they such burdens in every society they migrate into? Inner city crime rates are the highest in the world and charitable giving must remain constant into their communities. Accordingly, all debts owed by African Nations and owed by American Blacks to westerners who oppose African Culture, both past and present, should be repaid with interest, from the abusive African people. Crimes Against Humanity usually occur when they get power, not others, and must be reimbursed by the self-centered and violent race. by anonymous

One last thought on reparations
Considering the number of White slaves that helped build America
Considering that the White slaves did the majority of the early work
How are you going to decide which White person is descended from slavery
And which is descended from slave owners
How are you going to decide which black person is descended from slavery
And which is descended from slave owners?
Guess we'll be doing mass genealogy in this country!
